Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships

In "Romeo and Juliet" one example of a healthy relationship could be the Nurse and Juliet. Another healthy relationship could be the Friar and Romeo.

The nurse is like a mother to Juliet while the Friar is like an uncle to Romeo. Nurse always cares for Juliet and tells her the right things and supports her. She lets Juliet follow her own heart.  Through line 190-193 Act 2 Scene 4 it says " I anger her sometimes, and tell her that Paris is the proper man, but I'll warrant you, when I say so, she looks as pale as any clout in the versal world." What I think in this line is that the nurse is telling Romeo how Juliet gets when she tells her Paris is better man. But she is doing what Juliet wants her to do and she supports her. She proves she is a fun nurse and she kids with her a lot. For example, in Act 2 scene 5, line 38- 42 Nurse jokes about Romeo "You know not how to choose a man. Romeo? No, not he. Though his face be better than any man's, yet his legs excels all men's, and for a hand and a foot and a body, though they be not to be talked on, yet they are past compare. He is not the flower of courtesy, but, I'll warrant him as gentle as a lamb"

With Friar and Romeo it looks like the Friar is like a close uncle to him that cares for Romeo even he is not a regular boring priest. It seems the Friar is more close to Romeo than Romeo with his father. An example would be line 48 Act 2 Scene 3 " Friar: That's my good son! But where hast thou been then?" He cared for Romeo and gets worried when he gets involved with wrong people like Rosaline. Also he agrees to get Romeo married to Juliet fort the sake of Romeo and peace. Line 94 Act 2 Scene 4 "Friar: ...but come, young waverer, come go with me. In one respect I'll thy assistant be, For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households' rancor to pure love."

Some examples of unhealthy relationships in "Romeo and Juliet" could be Lady Capulet and Juliet and maybe Mercutio and Romeo.

Lady Capulet and Juliet don't get along well. Their mother and daughter relationships doesn't seem to exist and maybe in some way it could have been the nurse's fault. But that is just my opinion. Sometimes I feel like Lady Capulet is scared  to talk to Juliet because she thinks Juliet hates her, which maybe true, but she doesn't make any effort to even try. Once she made an attempt to talk to her alone, but changed her mind and got Nurse instead.
Lady Capulet:" This is matter. Nurse, give leave awhile, We must talk in secret. Nurse, come back again. I have remembered me, thou's hear our counsel. Thou know eat my daughter's of a pretty age." Act 1 Scene 3 lines 8-11. She brought nurse back so she didn't have to deal with Juliet. Or it also could be a good relationship in a different way. Maybe she wanted Juliet to be stronger than she is and have more freedom. Or maybe not.
With Romeo and Mercutio their relationships with one another could be good or bad. Mercutio is a really good friend to Romeo. Even if he's not a Montague he's with Romeo. Basically, Mercutio is the leader of the Montague boys because the other boys are to scared to battle Tybalt. But, Mercutio and Romeo could have a bad relationship as well. Mercutio didn't support Romeo with their fight with Tybalt. And I think he died because he didn't agree with Romeo's decision. Instead he cursed both families. Mercutio:"I am hurt. A plague on both your houses! I am sped. Is he gone and hath nothing?" Act 3 Scene 1 lines 84-86

Although some relationships have good in them they also have the bad. I think we have to try to at least make it work. Not ignore the bad. Or the good. Life has issues. That is just what life is. And I think a good relationship has no certain start or end.. Even when you see a person for the first time and you instantly want to go out with him/her. And that's what I think is normal. And that is what I think Shakespeare would have thought was normal.

In my opinion, I think he writes his play based on real life situations with a bit of fiction in them. I think he had a tough life and I think he used his play to express his feelings.

What Juliet thinks about love

Juliet: I have never been in love, but I think Cupid has struck me with his bow cause I'm falling for Romeo "then have my lips the sin that they have took" I really want to kiss him because I'm in love with him but I just met him.I don't know what to do. I love but I hate.I know what love is when I see Romeo but what is love when it comes to my parents. My mom can't even talk to me properly. She once asked to talk to me alone but she got nurse to talk to me. How can I love my parents when my dad is always drunk and my mom doesn't give a c$&p about me. Nurse is my true mother I love her more then anything. How can I learn what true love is when I'm getting forced into this marriage with Paris, he's not even cute. I hope my life gets less pathetic..

Interim Report

In class I think that I work well alone and in groups. I try to finish my work in class, if I don't I try do do it at home. I do put in a lot of effort into my work like my blog and personal page. Link to my personal page..

I try to finish my work on time. So far I don't think I have ever been late to finish my work. I do try my best when I do assignments.

I don't think I have ever missed a class before, and gotten late.

I usually comment on people's blog sometimes I forget but I try to when I remember or when I have no other homework.

I think it is interesting how we use technology to do our work. And I like how I have an excuse to tell my parents to go on the computer. It makes English fun to learn rather just sitting down doing quizzes all the time.

Relationships

The poems we've discussed about are mostly the authors feelings towards relationships. There are a lot of different kinds of relationships. Mostly everyone has some kinds of relationships in their lives. Either with your parents, friends, pets and etc. When your a teenager you build relationships with bunch of new people whether it's good or bad.

In the poem "How is your heart"  by Charles Bukawski, he had a tough life but it didn't stop him from keep going. He laughed at his life and kept living where in most cases if teens had a similar life to his, they would've been driven crazy, and maybe even killed themselves. But in the end what mattered was how he dealt with his problems. He struggled through life alone and the way he dealt with his problems is what made him strong.

In the poem "To a stranger" by Walt Whitman , he wanted to love and be loved by someone special who he hasn't even met yet. He creates an imaginary world where everything for him is going the way he wants it to be. His message was not to judge people about who they are. He couldn't live as the way he wanted to be, and he wouldn't want that to happen to anyone else. He wanted his life to be perfect when it wasn't. Most teens including me wants a perfect life but in reality most teens don't have a perfect life and use drugs and alcohol as an excuse to forget their troubles.

In the poem "Unentitled"  by Jennifer L'Hirondelle  she was attached to the people and place she loved and she thought she didn't deserve that. Many teens go through those thoughts. They feel like they are undeserving of some things and feel like some people are more inferior than them.

But in the end you should love the things you already have and love yourself because each and every person that are born in this world have a special role in the world and should feel proud of themselves and the people who helped you go through tough times and when you do feel good about yourself, you should never give up that feeling. You should seize that feeling and keep it forever.

Tattoo

I chose a yin-yang in a shape of a heart. Or just a normal yin-yang To me this tattoo symbolizes the opposites in the life. I want this tattoo on the back of my neck in the middle because that says there is always a good and a bad whether dealing with love or life. You can't have one without the other. They need each other to exist. Sometimes you want or expect something from life or other people but don't get it cause that's life. I want to learn to love the good and the bad in life so I don't get hurt in the future...

Being a Teenager

Being a teenager is hard, confusing, emotional, and sometimes it just feels like life sucks. But, the bright side that everyone around you start trusting you more. Everyone except your parents. Your parents can never let go of you. No matter how old you are. And sometimes it's frustrating and suffocating. On the other hand, there are also parents who give way to much freedom, and end up not paying attention to your life. Which is also as frustrating when parents are on your tail. So, like I said, being a teen is very confusing. You know you want your parent's attention but at the same time you want to scream at them and say "Get away from me!" And sometimes you actually do shout at them the storm of and lay on your bed then feel guilty for what you said, but never say sorry because you might be too mad or it might be too late. But most of the time they forgive you. They make it easier for you to say sorry. They know you don't mean it. You realize they have a reason for what they say or do.

And sometimes life does go downhill. But there will always be a time where you can reach the sky again...

Apartment Number 13

My name is Kelly. I once had a family. I had a Mom and a Dad, two twin brothers, a step-sister and a dog named Ace. I had lost all of them in one tragic evening. It all started when someone had left the windows open in apartment number thirteen....

I was preparing to move to an apartment with my family in Virginia. I didn't really want to move because I had made a lot of friends. And I had just gotten an incredible room to myself. When I heard we were moving I got shocked. "Why, Mom?"I had asked Mom.''I love it here. And I know you and Dad do too."

"Your Dad and I can't afford it hon. We've got no budget. I know it's a big change, but your Dad has seen the place and he says it's perfect for our family.'' She had replied.

" So is this house!" I had screamed.

"Kelly!'' Mom had shouted. She'd never shouted at me before. Not once. I had seen the fear in her eyes that day. The fear of hurting me. The fear of not being able to give us what we need and want.''We've got no money and you have no right to talk to me like that." She had said in a very stern voice. "Now get packing we're moving whether you like it or not." I had just stormed off without saying anything back. I had started and finished packing when my step-sister, Sophie came into my room.  Sophie and I hadn't been so close ever since I was born. Sophie's mom had died in car accident when she was just 3 years old. And then Dad had married Mom and had gotten me and my twin brothers.

''Stop bothering Mom with your selfish needs. Don't you see how tense she is nowadays?'' Sophie had said.

"Why would you care when you've got nothing to loose!" I had shouted at her. "You're just a life guard! You can get a job anywhere!''

Then Sophie had screamed at me"At least I don't act like a spoilt brat! You always get everything you want. When I want to buy stuff I want, I never get to buy it because you always left Mom and Dad with no money. And I always had to pay for your bills!" After screaming at me she stormed off to her room.

The next morning the moving truck came and the ride to Virginia was quiet and tense. No one had said a word. We had gotten to the apartment and the movers had put the furniture the way Mom wanted them too. While Dad payed the bills. When I got to my so called room, I found Sophie's boxes full of her things next to mine. And two beds in either side of the room. I then had figured out I had to share a bedroom with Sophie. At first it wasn't that bad. There was a lot of space for both me and Sophie. We didn't talk but we knew what not to do.

After two weeks is when things started to go down hill. My parents started arguing for the first time in my life because one of my twin brothers, Jim, had broken an arm by falling from their window on the first floor. My parents were relieved their rooms hadn't had been on the second or third floor. "Jim do you know how you fell off the window?" I had asked. Just then he looked behind me, where Sophie was standing and became unusually quiet and at the corner of my eye I thought I had seen Sophie shake her head.

Jim's twin, Jack, had replied quickly. "Um, we were just playing and running around our room and I tripped over something and pushed Jim. That's how he fell out the window."

"Oh, Okay." I had said. But I knew something was else was going on. Something involving
Sophie. Then I followed Sophie to our room. When I had just started to fall asleep I heard someone approaching me. I turned around and found Sophie hovering over me. "Um, hey Sophie. Can I help you?" I had asked. She looked paler than usual. Was she sick? I had thought. But that wasn't the case. Maybe it was just because of the lack of brightness in the room.

"I want to know how Jim fell out of the window because I don't think Jack was telling the truth." For a second my suspicion of Sophie had dropped. So it wasn't her. I had thought to myself. "I want you to help me find out the truth.'' I was shocked she wanted me to help. I had thought she really wanted to find out. " Let's check the boys room first then go to the 3rd floor to see what would've happened if Jim if he fell from there."  Then she walked of without hearing my answer.

We had walked to the twins room and opened the door slowly and examined the window and left for the 3rd floor. "So, what should we look at first?" I had asked Sophie. I had gotten no response. She probably needed to get something. I'd thought. So, I had started investigating myself. I looked around the window first when I heard footsteps behind me. "About time." I said to Sophie while I was still examining the window. Then Sophie did something I didn't expect. She pushed me out the window. Time slowed down. I had fallen into the darkness of the night. I Kelly had died that day.

So, are you  wondering how I'm telling you my story after I died? Because I still haunt the apartment I live in. Or lived in. Waiting for the right time to get revenge...
